I like the peace in the backseat.

I know it’s a sad song and stuff, but this sounds like the best parts of high school.

I don’t know, I guess you’ve just been on my mind.

“I gave her my heart and she gave me a pen.”

Last week I watched Say Anything. After the movie was over, I, naturally, wanted to listen to “In Your Eyes” on repeat and pretend someone was standing outside my window holding a stereo over his head in a testament to his love for me. My iTunes library, however, did not hold the Peter Gabriel version. All I had was this version by Ben Harper, but I think I like it better. It’s been on repeat for several days now, so it’s time to share it with you.

Want to hear something fantastic? I just figured out that I have a 2 page French essay due, Anthropology test, and possible Information Gathering project due in the next 36 hours. Woo!

The Truth About Forever
January 25, 2010

On March 20, my sister will turn 18 and we will act upon something we have said we would do for years now. As soon as my sister is of legal age, she and I are getting tattoos.

Don’t freak out or anything, we’re not getting sleeves. We decided we wanted to get the same thing, so it’s a sister thing, you know? After much consideration, we decided on the heart and hand design from Sarah Dessen’s book The Truth About Forever. In said book, a young artist, Wes, uses the image of a heart in the palm of a hand throughout most of his work. GoodReads.com had the following quote from the book about the meaning behind it.

You know, feeling and action are always linked, one can’t exist without the other. It’s sort of a hippie thing.

So yeah, that’s what we’re getting. During my research into the whole tattoo process, I came upon the blog Fuck Yeah Tattoos! and now, I am obsessed. The designs on FYT are alternately beautiful and cringe-worthy, with most entries eliciting a cry of “What were you thinking?!” from me when I see them. Some are sweet, some are badass, and some are just stupid. It doesn’t matter though, because I love looking at all of them.

Camping and Concerts? Sounds like heaven.
January 20, 2010

Who’s going to Coachella with me? Seriously. I like to camp. I love concerts. It’s perfect. And, hello, have you seen the lineup? Grizzly Bear, Jay-Z, Passion Pit, Benny Benassi, She & Him, and Vampire Weekend! And that’s just Friday. Saturday and Sunday have Camera Obscura, Coheed and Cambria (I feel you judging me, stop that), Corinne Bailey Rae, DEVO, MGMT, Muse, Old Crow Medicine Show, The Temper Trap, Little Boots, Mayer Hawthorne, Mutemath, Phoenix, Sly & The Family Stone, Thom Yorke, and Yo La Tengo, among others.

Again, I ask you, who’s going to Coachella with me?

John Krasinski=Love
January 17, 2010

There was a time, not so long ago, that my sister did not like The Office. I know. I KNOW. When I got seasons 3 and 4 for Christmas, I played them from start to finish and basically forced her to watch it until she found Steve Carrell’s dry humor hilarious. It worked.

Now, needless to say, I am quite proud that my sister found this video and shared it with me. It’s hilarious. I want to marry John Krasinski. Sorry, Best Friend.

Everything is clearer in our world

By now, we all know about the disastrous earthquake in Haiti and the worldwide crisis accompanying it. News sources have confirmed mass deaths and destruction, and people everywhere are lending help where they can. It was hard for me to put all of this into context until I came across this piece at New York Times online. Seeing the names and faces of missing people submitted by their worried family and friends shed a new, more personal light on this catastrophe.

Take a moment to look at the pictures yourself and, if you can, donate to the relief efforts in Haiti. By texting HAITI to 90999, your phone bill is charged and you will donate $10 to the American Red Cross. It is just a small amount, but every little bit helps in a situation such as this.

Just a quick rant
January 14, 2010

This morning I was awoken not by birds chirping, or sunlight streaming through my window, or even the soft patter of rain. No, this morning I was greeted by the lovely sound of a jackhammer attacking concrete at 7:45 am. Hey, dipshits, you couldn’t have waited an hour? ARE YOU KIDDING ME RIGHT NOW? Anyways, now I’m up, but at least today can’t get any worse. Hopefully.

I need coffee.
